The warm weather is hitting Kentucky and everyone is getting spring fever. March is a very moody month for weather and we never know what to expect here. However, in the grooming salon, March looks the same every year. Pet owners scrambling to book for their pets winter clean up. Unfortunately for many, they neglected their pets coat all winter because they wanted them to have their coats to keep warm in the winter and now they are extremely matted and have to be shaved down.

If it’s been a while since your pets last grooming, be prepared for a full reset. Most groomers will not spend hours bushing out coat that hasn’t been maintained, Not only is it a physical task on the groomers, its painful to your dog. Shaving is the best option for dogs with hair type coats, and even some fur types.

When you schedule your pets appointment, be honest with your groomer. Trust me, we know. Be prepared for additional fees, as these jobs are a lot of work on our bodies and our tools. Book a secondary appointment as well. When we have to shave off matted coats ,the finished product isn’t always as smooth as we like, It can take a second session to get the pet back to ideal style. Usually after a few weeks of grow out we can neaten up the previous groom and get you on a maintenance schedule. Don’t go on social media bashing your groomer about how your dog wasn’t matted and your groomer was just lazy, we take photos and we talk. Tons of groomer groups on Facebook and we share photos of our day just like all the other trades people. Sometimes we have to use thosse photos to protect our business from defamation. I’ve seen the drama online.. It ain’t pretty.

If you have a fur coated dog, expect much of the same, but a lot of the time with the proper training and tools, the coat can be blown out. Again this is extremely time consuming physical task that will result in extra grooming fees and a follow up appointment. A maintenance  schedule will be required

This is why every fall I urge pet owners to maintain a winter grooming schedule. While coat keeps your pets warm. an impacted coat will not work properly. Knotted coat is painful. Overgrown nails hurt.

If you need to get your pets back in order, text us a photo and some basic information and will will send you a quote and appointment availability.
